Humae Society Exuma is a not for profit charity set up to help rescue and support stray potcakes and cats in Exuma, The Bahamas.
Potcake dogs, named after the traditional Caribbean dish, are beloved mixed-breed dogs found on various islands in the region. Their moniker originates from the practice of feeding them the leftover, overcooked rice that sticks to the bottom of the cooking pot. This culinary connection underscores their status as cherished companions within local communities. While potcake dogs exhibit a range of appearances, they typically boast smooth coats, perky ears, and elongated faces. This endearing mix of traits makes them not only a part of Caribbean culture but also beloved pets worldwide.
Potcake dogs are renowned for their intelligence, loyalty, calm demeanor, and remarkable resilience. Unlike some dog breeds, potcakes possess hardy stomachs and can consume a wide variety of foods without issue. However, their independence may lead them to wander if not adequately supervised or confined. Despite this tendency, potcakes remain devoted and affectionate companions, making them cherished members of families and communities alike.
